Billy Knott ended a successful season with AFC Wimbledon by being named the young player of the year.

Knott, who has been on loan with The Dons this season, returns to Sunderland now but the midfielder is willing to return for another loan spell next season if possible.

The 19-year-old, as he told the official website, was delighted with his award and has not hidden his desire to return if possible: ‘to be picked as the young player of the year is a great honour for me.

‘But it is all down to the players and staff here who have helped me every day in training. They have helped through a few personal things and to settle in well. I have also been allowed the freedom to play my football.

‘I would consider coming back as it is a great club with great fans. I will be looking to go out on loan again as I do not want to go back to playing reserve-team football.

‘But I will have to speak to the gaffer and the staff at Sunderland first when I go back there.’
