Coach Simon Bassey has said that Wimbledon’s performance against Chesterfield more than restored some pride at the club, but we must perform like that on a far more regular basis now.

Following on fro the real disappointment of the York loss, the players certainly gave a reaction against Chesterfield and Bassey was pleased with what he saw but he knows that should be the least of our efforts in every game between now and the end of the season.

Speaking to the Official Site following the one all draw, he explained.

‘I’ve said to the boys in there that they are the levels that this club needs. If you put a Wimbledon shirt on then they are the minimum expectations that are required. We want a great work ethic and togetherness and we fell short of that on Saturday. But I think the fans can go away proud of a hard working performance. Chesterfield are the best team in this league by a long way in my book and we’ve given them a good game.’

Bassey goes on to say though that what is important for everyone now is that we maintain those levels and find some real consistency because that has been a problem all season, and he knows we have the quality of players to perform and battle like that, but our form has to be rectified.

His only real disappointment from the match was in the fact that we didn’t keep the lead for longer, because he feels had we not let them back into the game after five minutes they could well have become more frustrated and we might have been able to snatch a second or hold on for the win and all three points.
