New striker Bayo Akinfenwa has said that nobody wanted the start we ended up having against Margate in our last friendly, so now it’s down to the players to put that right at their next time of asking.

Speaking to the Official Site as Bayo talked about how the fans had made he feel welcome and what he now hoped to achieve with Wimbledon, he talked firstly about the Margate defeat.

‘The outcome of the first game against Margate was not what we were looking for, but at this stage of the season it’s not about results. It’s about the new players getting to know each other and how we want to play. We have to take the positives out of the game and look forward to Chelsea. Hopefully, we will be celebrating a lot more positives than negatives next season.’

As one of nine summer additions, he also said that in some ways, although it takes time for the team to gel when there are so many changes, it can help the newbies settle in because obviously there are a number of them in the same boat.

‘It’s always nice when there are a few coming in rather than you being the only one. There are nine new players and we’ve all be made to feel very welcome by those already here. It’s a big cliche, but it feels like we’ve been together as a squad longer. We all want to play good football and we’re striving for one common goal and that’s to be successful.’

Talking about the reception he’s got from the fans, he adds that this has just made him more determined to succeed at the club now so he can pay that kindness back.
