Wimbledon signed not one but two ‘keepers on Thursday as Neal Ardley looks to keep currently no.1 Ross Worner on his toes.

James Shea and Joe McDonnell both put pen to paper on contracts at Kingsmeadow with Shea the more likely challenger for Worner in the immediate future.

The 23-year-old, Player of the Year with Harrow Borough last season, was a former youngster with Arsenal and was recommended to the club by former boss Dave Anderson, now with Harrow, who Ardley says that he had rated as the best ‘keeper he’s seen!

As a result he trained with the club several times last season with the Dons beating several other clubs to his signing but putting a contract in front of him instead of requesting a train as others had.

20-year-old McDonnell will play for the U21 side this season as he continues his development to compete with the first-choice ‘keepers in the seasons ahead.
