AFC Wimbledon have been rocked by the news that talented youngster Brendan Kiernan has put in a transfer request, which has been accepted.

19-year-old Kiernan, who only signed a new contract to take him through until the summer of 2013, is now available if the price is right.

Chief executive Erik Samuelson, as he told the official website, has explained the situation: ‘Brendan is a talented player and (manager) Terry Brown had earmarked him as part of his long-term plans.

‘That is why we offered him an extended contract in January, which he signed.

‘However, Brendan now wishes to leave the club and we have decided not to stand in his way. We are seeking a fee for his transfer.’

The midfielder made eight appearances for The Dons this season, among them one start.
