Junior Dons Party at Kingsmeadow

This weekend the Junior Dons party took place at the Cherry Red Records Stadium, Kingsmeadow. The Dons Trust have been throwing an annual kids party for years, usually taking the form of a Christmas party. For whatever reason this season’s party didn’t happen in the run up to Christmas but instead took place on Sunday 2nd February.

Despite being paid up Junior Dons members for a cumulative total of a decade, this year was the first year that my two were both old enough and keen enough to go (after all it is a 1½ hour drive to KT1 for us!) and not being in December meant we weren’t otherwise engaged in Christmas-related activities.

The party was well attended with around 40-odd kids, from toddlers to pre-teens, plus their parents. The Dons Trust team were there along with Haydon the Womble as well as most of the Dons’ first team coaching staff and playing squad, including manager Neal Ardley, first team coach Simon Bassey and physio Stuart Douglas and family, along with club captain Alan Bennett, Barry Fuller and family, Callum Kennedy (complete with ankle cast boot!), George Francomb, Sammy Moore, Jack Midson, Luke Moore, Harry Pell, Jim Fenlon, Kevin Sainte-Luce, Charlie Sheringham and Chris Arthur.

As well as plenty of party food and drink, there was face painting and a kids disco with party games such as a team balloon race, family limbo (in which the Fullers out-limboed the Douglases!!), and mummies – in which George Francomb, Charlie Sheringham, Alan Bennett and Chris Arthur were enthusiastically wrapped up in bandages of yellow & blue tissue paper by teams of kids (and remaining players!). The kids all had a great time.

The party also coincided with the club official merchandise clearance sale and with kids receiving a club shop gift voucher a good many went home kitted out in AFC Wimbledon kits!!

The party was free to Junior Dons members of the Dons Trust, which is only £5 per year (£10 in the first year but you get a joining gift), and is just another example of the many community activities undertaken by the club.
