Neal Ardley has spoken highly of Tom Richards following his AFC Wimbledon debut at the weekend.

Richards, signed on loan from Fulham just 24-hour prior, came in for an instant debut against Fleetwood Town and helped play his part in the goal less draw with the league two promotion chasers.

The Fulham man offered an attacking outlet from his defensive position, or so he thought, until he was being used more in the middle but he didn’t let anyone down and the Dons boss thinks he’ll offer the club something during his loan.

Ardley was quoted on Sky Sports as saying: ‘We switched to four at the back and Tom probably thought that he would be galloping down the left side playing wing-back but 20 minutes in he was covering for the centre-backs in a back four and he did really well.

‘He learned on Thursday that AFC Wimbledon wanted him and then he’s in training with us for the first time on Friday. On Friday night he had to sing his initiation song for the lads in the hotel.

‘He has a wonderful left foot and loves galloping down the left wing. I thought he was steady and he’ll get better as time goes on.’
