Vinnie Jones decided to permanently loan his Wimbledon FA cup winner`s medal to AFC Wimbledon.

This was decided after a series of meetings with Ivor Heller, the Dons commercial director
.
It will be displayed at Kingsmeadow following Vinnie`s decision to loan it to the club.
He won it when Wimbledon beat Liverpool in the 1988 FA cup final 1-0 to cause one of the biggest upsets of a FA cup final.

The former Wimbledon midfielder had a no nonsense approach and was fondly remembered in the picture of him keeping Paul Gascoigne in check by grabbing hold of his wedding tackle, in a match against Newcastle United.
This was the Vinnie Jones, former Wimbledon idol and former hod carrier who the media loved to hate.

Jones said: “The medal is a link to the memory of the club and I wish them all the best for the future.”

Commercial director Ivor Heller said, “The medal will go on display at the clubs kingsmeadow ground in Kingston, Surrey, for supporters to enjoy.’

He added, “When you consider an FA Cup winner`s medal fetches between £20,000 and 30,000 at auction – and Vinnie`s would probably go for more – it is a wonderful gesture.”

“We have promised him that on no condition will we ever sell it.”

“It may sound strange in football, but some things are more important than money and Vinnie gave it to us on condition that we do not cash it in.”

“We have been going since 1889 and Vinnie`s medal is a reminder of that wonderful day when we stunned the football world.”

It just goes to show how many former Wimbledon players are behind AFC Wimbledon.
